Jessica Is an experienced professional in the field of mental health with a diverse educational background, military service, and professional experience. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Master of Science in Professional Counseling. I’m also a United States Army veteran. My military service instilled in me a strong sense of discipline and responsibility, which has been a valuable asset in my professional pursuits.
In my professional practice, I use a range of traditional psychotherapy models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivation Interviewing, Solution-Focused and Person-Centered approach. Additionally, I have specialized training in Play Therapy, which allows me to work with children in a way that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for them. These models and techniques allow me to provide a well-rounded and holistic approach to helping my clients navigate their challenges and achieve their goals.
I have a particular focus on working with adolescents and children, as well as adults, who are facing specific challenges that require a specific approach and sensitivity. I find working with this population to be particularly rewarding.
I am dedicated to providing effective and compassionate care to all my clients, regardless of their age or background. I believe that my education, experience, and specialized training have prepared me well to understand and help my clients. I am honored to be able to use my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Get to know me... I am currently in my final year of residency towards LPC licensure. I am under the clinical supervision of Holly McCloud, MA, LMFT, CSAC. I have completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from Liberty University in May 2021 and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Radford University in May 2013.My clinical background involves working in a variety of settings that have provided me extensive knowledge and skills I continue to utilize in practice today. A few of these settings include case management, residential treatment, public schools, crisis stabilization, and private practice.
Continued focus: I bring a relatable perspective when working with you. There are a few areas that I have more professional experience than others. Some of these focal areas include addiction, specifically substance abuse and problem gambling, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Regardless of the topic, disorder, or area of focus, I am open to listening and working through life’s challenges with you. Additionally, I provide therapeutic support to children and their families, primarily for children ages 9-17; though, I am always open to a consultation. I continue to enjoy working with families and couples, which I continue to broaden my knowledge in additional training.
BTW... I have a background in law, with prior experience working with Probation and Parole and the court system in Southwest VA and Northern VA. I also have a certificate in Paralegal Studies that I utilize when working with court-ordered adults and children. This is a continued passion for me and can provide a unique perspective for those currently court-ordered or with pending court matters.
Therapeutically, I utilize different techniques depending on the needs of the person. There is not a “one size, fits all” to therapy, so using different styles and approaches are helpful. Depending on your needs and what is empirically beneficially, we will collaborate on the best outcome overall. I tend to gravitate towards DBT, CBT, Mindfulness, and an overall client-centered approach.
I look forward to hearing from you and taking that first step towards change.

“In 2016, I received my Masters of Social Work from Radford University after first completing my Bachelors in Social Work and Liberal Studies from Longwood University in 2014. Both educational experiences provided me a variety of opportunities to learn in the mental health field. My passion is to work with individuals who have experienced trauma providing them with the tools to be successful. I have helped children in foster care ages 2-18 work through depression, anxiety, and PTSD. A key to success is to first build strong trusting relationships with my clients. I look forward to continuing my passion with Star City Therapy Services in helping children, adolescent, and adults.”

My name is Tina Malpass. I have an undergraduate degree in Christian Ministries from Emmanuel College and a master's degree in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. I am currently pursing my LPC under the supervision of Holly McCloud and come with over 13 years of school counseling experience at both elementary and high. I also proudly have over 10 years of athletic coaching experience at the secondary and collegiate levels. As both a school counselor and coach, the most rewarding part of my job was helping others feel safe and validated as they worked through life's highs and lows.
I firmly believe that most people have the ability within themselves to heal, but just need a safe place to talk through their thoughts and experiences with someone unbiased and trusted. My counseling approach is person-centered, providing space and opportunity for individuals to explore experiences, thoughts and paths to move forward. I come with experience and knowledge working specifically with children and teen survivors of trauma, crisis counseling, performance anxiety/wellness and adults exploring adverse childhood experiences that may have negatively impacted trust and self-reflection. I am thrilled to begin this journey into private practice work at Star City Therapy!
